Roughing-Out Gouge

When starting out and preparing the timber for spindle work at the lathe, you will nearly always need to rough turn the uneven shaped timber between centres down to round to continue your work.   This is where the Robert Sorby Roughing-Out Gouge comes into its own, this gouge are been designed in such a way to carryout this task with the shape of the tool to cut safely with the wings (the name given to the tips of the side walls) well back from the work piece.   With the ¾” size being the most popular available size
