Pen Mandrel Support

Description

Pen turning using the pen mandrel shaft, we would normally use a rotating centre with a point in the tail stock of the lathe, the tip of the point is located into the concave at the end of the pen mandrel shaft.

Over time its possible that that the tip of the rotating centre could become worn damaging the expensive drive centre, or the concave at the end of the pen mandrel shaft could become worn and being unable to securely hold properly in place the rotating centre. Any of these problems could cause the pen mandrel shaft to turn with a wobble no matter how severe will mean that the pen blank will not turn correctly damaging the pen blank and brass tube.

To save you the cost of replacing the rotating centre or the pen mandrel shaft, we have the Pen Mandrel Support. The pen mandrel support enables the pen mandrel shaft to be held in place without any force being applied to the pen mandrel and pen mandrel shaft. The pen mandrel support is a rotating centre but instead of a pointed tip there is a hole / recess, in which the pen mandrel shaft is inserted, the shaft is held in place without any force being applied to the shaft and ensures that the pen mandrel set up turns freely and true.

The pen mandrel support is supplied with either a No 1 Morse Tapper or a No 2 Mores Tapper
