The Goncalo Alves is generally not too difficult to turn at the lathe, despite its high density, ensure that you keep your turning tools sharp. The Heartwood is typically a medium reddish brown with irregularly spaced streaks of dark brown to black. The colour tends to darken with age.
The Goncalo Alves wood is very resistant to moisture absorption, which can make it difficult to glue. The Goncalo Alves turns well, and a high gloss finish can be achieved.
Pictures show the Goncalo Alves in the square and a small turned bowl, due to the nature of timber the shades and grain pattern may differ slightly between each blank
The picture of the small bowl is an example of what you could turn with Goncalo Alves wood at the lathe.
